Because I use a lot of Indo on this mostly English site, here's some lingo for the uninitiated:
abang=big brother
ade/adek=younger sibling (gender neutral)
bete/bt=a negative emotion, usually irritation or a bad mood
cewe/ce=slang for girls
cowo/co=slang for boys
ja'im (jaga imej/image)=guarding your social image
kakak (pronounced kaka')=older sibling (gender neutral, or female, depending)
--kak (ka')=honorific for older siblings or 'sempai'
kuliah/kul=college
gwe (sometimes gw, gue)=slang for I or me
SD=elementary school
SK (sometimes es-ka; setia kawan): solidarity, loyalty (among friends)
skul=school
SMA=high school
SMP=middle school
TK=kindergarten
wa=slang for I, me (same as 'gwe')
what are all those 2s? this is shorthand for a 'kata ulang'
or repeated word. ngakak2 is read ngakak-ngakak= laughing very hard
any words that need to be added?

cyteen w00t-ing (&random bitching about other stuff)
So the random bitching comes first. Stop complaining about the invisible test in the tag box, Rosen. *smacks rosen, even if he's not the only one complaining . . . everyone else is a senior . . . bwahahaha~* *pats rosen-chan* Jgn2 rose-chan senior juga. Kalo ternyata rosie dah tua kan gw ga enak banget. ><" Heh.
Kaworu-san, so honored you would come here. XD 'pa coba? Tell Jo-chan to tag me, too. Tag collecting dulu ya? So people will think I have freinds. *huksi*
zelda: I'll get your link up soon. If you stop agreeing with rosen-chan.
mashi: *waves* blakangan ga bisa ol. It's do or tim,e time with papers and I watched Last Samurai instead. maybe it is time for the bunuh diri, eh, rosen? ^^;;;; Stress de. Besok ujian matematik. T.T Sebel. Algebra what now?
Eniwei, when exams are over, I expect I'll be on line more.
[/sosial blog]
All test/paper/exam scores are completely fucked up because I Just Dont Care Anymore. All I want to do is sleep, dammit. ><' I want to sleep so much that I'm hyper and annoyed and have no patience for anything.
Also, I forgot to feed my dog. *bitten by martin-guki* ^^; But he's fat and disgraceful anyway. Spent the evening trying to tape his ears together. I should have been doing math for tommorow. XP
Okay. Cyteen. Beware some spoilers may lurk.
*squeeeee* just about sums it up. >_> Picked up book 1 at the infamous second hand book store and started browsing through it. Ended up sitting in the hallway reading it and getting in people's way until my feet fell asleep, and then I bought it, eandered into Borders and found the complete trilogy combined volume. ><' Damn it.
But I don't really care, because book one was like 3 bucks, and I would never have searched for the borders one if I hadn't found that one first. Especially with the way it was with the tall books and not the other CJ Cherryh books, which were all normal-size.
For a brief review none of you will read: Cyteen--from what I gather by leafing through it and ruining it for myself--is a somewhat bladerunner/Chobits tipe of thing, set in a universe where people either have the status of CIT (citizen, I assume) or azi, which are people who are different in some way I can't quite figure out but has something to do with 'tape'. Tape is, apparently, some way of learning. I can't figure out the psysical details of it, but poeple are drugged and tape run on them with some sort of tape machine (no explanation found yet about how this hooks up or works on someone with shut eyes, considering it uses images, and thats driving me nuts, but okay, I can carry unenlightened.)
Unlike CITs, azi are owned until they take enough tape ( I guess this means learn enough) to get a CIT rank, which has something to do with number classifications, like your social security or KTP. (KTP is indo. don't worry your pretty little heads over it. Sos Sec is US, you folk don't worry about this either, okay? ^^; --bad mood bart)
Anyway (or eniwei, if you prefer, indo folk, who have probably left by now, after skimming the social blog. You bastards.) the trilogy revolves around the CIT-rank clone Justin Warrick and his azi 'brother' GrantALX. I skipped over the prequel stuff to get right to the main chrachters, so mostly I have no idea whats going on, but Grant despite having been raised with Justin, is property of what I'll call the cloning folk, and can't get CIT status because of the X on his number, which designates him as an experimental. Why that should matter, I have no idea. Maybe I missed it, but hey, I havent officially started reading the thing yet.
Trouble starts when the scientist Arienne Emory demands grant back for research purposes and Justin tried to smuggle his azi out, getting Grant hurt and himself and his father in what can only be described as deep shit. Justin is then treated to some shota by the 120 yr old Emory (eww! what? rejuv? they keep young looking? still . . . ewww!) which he ends up struggling with for ever after.
Blah blah blah and politicking ensues as Arienne is killed and then cloned, resulting in the much more likeable Ari, whom neither Grant nor Justin ever seem to really warm up to, but who I really like, because she's the only one whos nice to them. I suspect because like her dna-source Arienne, she has a thing for Justin.
What? they guys are a couple? Bonus. It took me all day to scrounge this sentance up because earlier I'd found an ambigous comment as to the father (clone material donor, technically) having had only so many heterosexual relationships and thaat things were this way for Justin, too. I 'hmm'ed and got no work done today. Damn you, Cherryh! I need a fucking sequel. With the same chrachters, even if they are in their 30s by near to the end. (I read a lot, skipping about ^^;; I'll probably never end up reading it for real.)
Because you see, even if I don't consider myself one of those idiot shwo has to find hooyay (this means yaoi, mashi. ^^; 'yaoi' is mashi's magic word. XD *kicked*) in everything, you have to understand: I have a thing for Grant.
It may even be love.
Or caffeine and sleep deprivation. I'll know after tuesday, when I finally get to fucking sleep. Good god.
Back to topic: Justin and Grant are, supossedly, lovers, if the gossip new-Ari refers to is true, and all hints say it is, but theres never anything between them but hugging and worrying about things that might go wrong. Even Ari's comment comes nearer the end than the beginning, and I really could have stood to see some more lover-tipe interaction. Everything between them seems like it could have been just a Supervisor being nice to his azi or something. The occaional drop of the word 'partner' isn't enough hint for me. That could mean anything. I still have my doubts. Spell it out, dammit!!
Anyway, I'd like it to have been clearer. They *do* spend a lot of time together, but with the crises their always in, it could have been plain necessity, since Justin's always worrying when someone might do something to Grant like mind-wipe him, run tape (Even if azi seem to like tape. It's weird. I'm not entirely sure what tape *is*) or mess with his psychsets, which is like people-programming. Justin just comes of overly protective of what is his responsibility, and hints like 'Grants a lot of things to you isn't he?' are too ambigous for me.
Did I say this already? God I'm tired. <(-_-)> ZZzzz Don't hold your breath expecting an edit. Or me susbtituting *these* with real italics.
I don't know why I said Chobits-like, except that the whole thing is like a warmer, fuzzier blade runner, and Chobits seems like that. There are a lot of legal difference between Grant and Justin, and Grant often points out how azi are different, which Justin often doesn't want to hear, even if he treats Grant like someone who needs him to make decisions for him, which Grant doesn't often seem to mind, since azi aren't, apparently, good at that sort of thing. Or something.
A lot of things I'd liek to know more about, like why you shouldn't yell at azi, how tape hooks up tp people, exactly, and how it works. Whether or not nurture is the only difference between CITs and azi, because even though thats mentioned a few times as being the case (CITs go to a family, azi learn by tape), Grant rants a great deal at one point about how his psychsets fit into one book, while Justine's wouldn't fit in the apartment. This contradiction confuses the hell out of me, espcially when other azi 'sets are mentioned. Grant is an alpha, which means he mutates his sets on his own or some such, which apparently other azi dont, and other azi sets are mentioned too. This appears to be programming, even though at one point someone says of an azi "if that baby were given to a family it would become a CIT."
And azi can become CITs, unless they have some weird number code thing like X, but then they have all these sets that are seemingly much smaller than CIT sets, or have considerably less sets. Or coding. Or whatever was in that book I mentioned before.
Maybe I should read it before I rant. But I like Grant with the same level of obssesion I had for Kenshin and later Aya of WK. Entirely different things, I know. Maybe it's the red hair and calm attitude, even if Grants more a Kenshin than an Aya. A more uncertain Kenshin sans battousai side.
More after class tomorow, maybe. I'm dead on my feet here. I expect this entry was pretty incoherent. I hope it's not disgracefullly so when I read it tommorow. Heh. Half of this english was written with my brain in Indo-mode. ^^;; It must read oddly. I wonder if it does. Wouldn't it be funny if it didn't and all my obsessing is over nothing?
Either way don't expect editing. I'm going to bed. And don't let my half-assed, half-awake 'reviews' put you off stuff, either. Pick up that book, if you even half like sci-fi. The politicking is a lot heavier than the character interaction, but it's a damn good read. Or at least a damn good skip-though. More after I actually read some. XD
Suffer my spelling. I'm failing english, you know. XP(-_-)>

the layout
Wanderlust v2. is a stargate layout.
The idea of the Stargate has always been one I liked: step through and wind up far, far
away. It's Star Wars meets CS. Lewis's wardrobe.
Welcome to wanderlust--v2. out there
