Because I use a lot of Indo on this mostly English site, here's some lingo for the uninitiated:abang=big brother
ade/adek=younger sibling (gender neutral)
bete/bt=a negative emotion, usually irritation or a bad mood
cewe/ce=slang for girls
cowo/co=slang for boys
ja'im (jaga imej/image)=guarding your social image
kakak (pronounced kaka')=older sibling (gender neutral, or female, depending)
--kak (ka')=honorific for older siblings or 'sempai'
kuliah/kul=college
gwe (sometimes gw, gue)=slang for I or me
SD=elementary school
SK (sometimes es-ka; setia kawan): solidarity, loyalty (among friends) skul=school
SMA=high school
SMP=middle school
TK=kindergarten
wa=slang for I, me (same as 'gwe')
what are all those 2s? this is shorthand for a 'kata ulang' or repeated word. ngakak2 is read ngakak-ngakak= laughing very hard
any words that need to be added?

a game with too much counting
For the last several weekends I've been foraying into the world of D&D. I figured it was like video games, manual version. Wrong. Final Fantasy doesn't argue with itself. It also doesn't whip out the Monster's Manual version 3.5metric, and tell you in fifteen different ways why your hex has no effect. Or wax poetic on the superiority of Star Wars Rules.
Or tell you to stop spinning dice.
M-san: *drops dice* Crap.
B: *spins many dice* It's all in the fingers.
B: *cackles*
The game is alright, but its a lot more fun to watch RuleGuys 1&2 look up rules to Prove-You-Wrong.
RuleGuy1: Ah-hah!! They changed it from version 2.5!!!
But I think I'm in trouble because when I was bleeding my life out last night, I tried to re-roll a bad roll to get more healing points and got caught.
Ruleguy1: Nice. Real nice.
M-san: I knew you'd get caught eventually.
M-san: *cackles* Guess its all in the fingers
That and making sure everyone else is looking the other way when you re-roll. I have many tactics for cheating, but now that people know I've been cheating from the get-go . . . .
It was all an honest sort of crookedness, really, since I'm no sort of D&D pro. Or fan, even. Usually I can't even find where to write my name on the charachter sheet. I think of my re-rolls as those little skips you do to keep up when walking with someone longer-legged who won't slow down to your pace.
The RuleGuys take it all very seriously and TokenGirl sulks whenever informed in twelve different ways why she can't have a unicorn. Coincidentally, killing a unicorn changes your alignment because it's automatically an evil act. I wanted to know if that still happened if I killed it for the greater good, but that just made the RuleGuys mad.
RuleGuy2(DM): Does anyone speak orc?
B: *whispers* I didn't fill in languages. What do orcs speak?
M-san: Orc. Write orc in now.
RuleGuy1: Are you writing orc in now? You can't write orc in now!
B: I speak orc.
RuleGuy1: You don't speak orc!
Charachter death, oddly, doesn't faze them.
RuleGuy1: *rolls, counts* Huh. I'm dead.
RuleGuy2: Dead-dead?
RuleGuy1: Dead-dead.
*awed silence*
RuleGuy2: Wow. Dead-dead.
*more awed silence*
*RuleGuys flip madly through books*
I wasn't sure how long you have to wait after a dead-dead before you can ask if it's your turn. I didn't wait long enough and it wasn't my turn anyway.
