indoglish

Because I use a lot of Indo on this mostly English site, here's some lingo for the uninitiated:

abang=big brother
ade/adek=younger sibling (gender neutral)
bete/bt=a negative emotion, usually irritation or a bad mood
cewe/ce=slang for girls
cowo/co=slang for boys
ja'im (jaga imej/image)=guarding your social image
kakak (pronounced kaka')=older sibling (gender neutral, or female, depending)
--kak (ka')=honorific for older siblings or 'sempai'
kuliah/kul=college
gwe (sometimes gw, gue)=slang for I or me
SD=elementary school
SK (sometimes es-ka; setia kawan): solidarity, loyalty (among friends)
skul=school
SMA=high school
SMP=middle school
TK=kindergarten
wa=slang for I, me (same as 'gwe')

what are all those 2s? this is shorthand for a 'kata ulang' or repeated word. ngakak2 is read ngakak-ngakak= laughing very hard

any words that need to be added?

things lost

You know how I said something new goes wrong in my place every 2 weeks or so? Thats still going on, and while I could snark endlessly about the creeping mold I just discovered, its far from the worst thing going on.

My cat is felV+ and I'm pretty sure he's on his last legs. And not to jinx him or anything, but I think one day soon (real soon--too soon) I'm going to have to work up the guts to have him put to sleep.

I promised my brother I'd take care of MochiMochi--although he's legally, technically, my cat, the truth is he always was my brother's. And he's one damn good cat.

The thing is: How do you know when its time? How do I know he wants to go? And really, do I have the right to do something so final, even to a cat?

And yeah, you might think its silly to worry so much over a kitty who was, really, on his way out before he ever came to us, but I really wish there was someone to tell me what to do. Or at least hold my hand while I do it.

mailing windows and ID

Oh, you know what mailing windows are. They're in the envelopes that come with your phone or electric bill. You're supposed to write your check and tear off the bottom third of the bill page and mail it all back, making sure that the address of that torn off third of a page peers out of the little window in the envelope.

As if I didn't have enough anxiety in my life, I now realize that I
m not sure if I checked that all the papers in my phone bill were the right way around. I nearly mailed off my electric bill with nothing but blank white paper showing in the window. Had to surgically remove the contents of the envelope, then flip them over and tape everything back together as neatly as possible.

Argh.

A similar brand of annoying is my campus ID/security badge. I knew it was only a matter of time before I left it in my other bag/pants/jacket or on the floor/kitchen table/desk/. The security guy had no sympathy. (No sense of humor either) He made me go all the way to admissions to get a print out of my schedule to prove I wasn't trying to get into the joint for devious reasons.

At least class was in a close-by building.

Some class buildings are halfway across the city and I'd have been really screwed then. Seems they should have all the ID photo files accessible, so that security tipes can just call them up if needed.

feed me

No. Really.

CG class is taking for ever and all I can think about is that hotdog joint out front. But I bet they cost like four bucks and are small enough to be gone in three bites.

Yesterday I ate a whole half pizza in one sitting.

It was a good day. XD

Maybe I'll get burritos. California has huge burritos. Tasty, too. . . . . *daydreams*

back on the wired

Today my internet cdrom came in the mail. XD A whole business day before the 7-9 days I was supposed to allow for it even started. I am so, so impressed, considering it took the same company almost three months to get my phone in order.

But hey. I'm online. I'm not complaining. I finally, finally, have access to dirty fics. Whee!

The one good thing about being offline for so long, is that when you come back all the archives have tons of new content.

memo: SITE DOWN

The scattering may be messed-up/down/gone/half-renovated for a while, off and on, as I finish uploading/editing and writing new pages.

When it comes back, there will no longer be a link from here to there. (From there to here, though: yes.)

Just a heads-up.

edit to say: might be a while actually. geocities is being a bitch about letting me upload things. or sign in for that matter. The load window keeps hanging my firefox. Damn thing.

the layout

Wanderlust v2. is a stargate layout.

The idea of the Stargate has always been one I liked: step through and wind up far, far away. It's Star Wars meets CS. Lewis's wardrobe.

Welcome to wanderlust--v2. out there
