But really, I saw the original movie and its not bad. Really good, actually. A little overburdened with clunky slang, but the characters were better than whats on most tv--or movies--these days, and if the sfx sucked, well, it was the eighties. The early eighties, I might add. (edit: acutally, it was the late seventies. I think the series ended in 79. See? Google is my freind.)

But still, theres a lot of static on the web about how the old show sucked. I thought the premise was good, and premise is a large part of making a good story. I Loved the idea of all of humanity floating along like some sort of interstellar boat-town with only the hope of Earth being a real, viable destination. I think it's great. =D The charachters were well defined, and even their uniforms didn't suck. I liked that they were brown. The bright military duds of other SF series bug me the way red, yellow and blue Gundams bug me.

Theres some improbable charachter situations--never mind dubious military tactics, decisions and set-ups--that are just sort of tossed out, without the anal-retentive detail picking and justification modern audiences seem to demand. You know--where all the Star Trek space terms have to be accurate, or be scientifically defendable because some trek nerd is just going to have to make a fuss about it. Theres a lightness to the movie that probably comes from not being detail-picked to death.

If it were made today we'd probably get a five minute mini-lecture about how Muffit2 was built and programmed using original SONY software. (Yeah, I know theres a remake, and that they probably don't do that. But They turned boy charahters into girl charachters and it bugs me. I fear who got the Change. I hope it was no one I liked. I am avoiding The Remake.)

edit to say: I googled. I was someone I liked. It was fucking Starbuck. Thats just . . . wrong. Godawful. I rather liked him the way he was. You know. Male. Guess it's set then: never watching the new version.

edited again to add: they turned Boomer into a girl, too. But completely left out two actual female charaters. What a load of feldergarb. I just found this fandom (cant believe it took me so long) and they've already gone and ruined it. My curse is working pre-emtively now: Instead of wrecking charas and stories after I like them, its now destroying before I ever get into the stuff. This curse, btw, is why they cancelled Carnivale. I'm sorry. I apologize.

I chirped way too much about my internet being on and my compie working OK. Because now everything but firefox hangs within a minute or two of turning the thing on.

Damn it.

I don't even know where to take this thing to get it fixed.

Plus I have sort of . . . weird filed saved all over the place.

3D--last class

Finished my 3D final. It nearly killed me, but I'm done.

What? No. No joke. I spent too long in front of the comp on Saturday, forgot to eat, and was so woozy I walked right into traffic.

What? Why isn't anyone stopping? --Oops.

So; class done. Must work on other stuff.

Don't wanna. Its gonna be a fuckin' all nighter.

The computer guy finally called, and after putting me on hold--and then apparently forgetting I was on hold at all--for almost twenty minutes . . . on my handphone . . . . lalala . . . .

compdude: Still on the line? Yeah, your motherboards fried. HD, too. Not worth fixing. You need a new comp. Bye.

If I had musical ability I'd go sit on a corner with a hat or tin cup. >_< Goddamn. I need a fucking computer. Sadly, it needs to be a laptop, and a toshiba. A laptop for the simple reasons that it needs to be air-travel portable (this means, a running from gate-to-gate brand of portable) and long-walk-to-train-station portable. And a toshiba because you can get toshiba fix-it service anywhere in the world. Not that it did me a damn lot of good in this instance, but then, it is a four year old laptop thats been hauled and keel-hauled across the globe and across the states. ^^;;; Something was bound to give.

My choices have come down to between two Toshiba satellites. I do comp graphics work (well, some--theoretically--and mostly for school, but still . . . ) and I don't know if I want to get a smaller screen, (14 inch, 1000x780-ish) to shave off a pound of weight or get a 15.4 inch with the more standard 1200ishx8-something screen. I'm not sure how much this matters for graphics. Or for viewing web pages.

You can tell I'm up on my tech, huh?

Theres 17 inch screeners *drool*, but my dead comp was an 8-pounder like these, and hauling it around airports was painful. Literally. Plus you can never find good wallpapers for wide-screen comps. Also, thats a lot of extra dough to shell out just so you can watch movies in their proper dimensions. Please.

First my cat dies, then my finals--well, not died, exactly, but came out less than standard--then my comp implodes.

I needed that comp to search for a new apartment while I have school break. Mine has no heat. I'm not looking forward to winter in it.

Speaking of breaks, I need one.

But having said that, I'll probably end up breaking a limb or something.

Being a grown-up sucks. I want someone to take care of me.

And buy me a new computer. XD

Hm. 2nd year SMP. 13 yeas old, I think. I also seem to remember spending most of this year duck-walking. ^^;;; I was so obsessed with basketball. And in total denial about being around four foot tall. I thought I was big and tough, but I recently found an old Pramuka uniform and I really wasn't. hahaha. No wonder Ka Muti and Ka Ela were always laughing at me and pinching my cheeks. XP

5 years ago--
18 years old. The year high school ended and I finally got to come home from Australia, which really is, as Seinfeld put it, the asshole of the world.

Also roughly the time the internet took it upon itself to introduce me to yaoi and related weirdness.

1 year ago--
22 years old. Packing up Granma's house in upstate NY where I'd just finished some college and plotting about how to get to a city, anycity. Anyplace that doesn't have grass or cows.

Yesterday--
Was told my comp is compeletely be-fucked (thats a technical term). Kept thinking about cleaning the apartment and dong dishes, then watched tv instead. My back hurt from hunching over work and my left leg wouldn't take weight. Felt sorry for self and watched Dr. Phil.

Tomorrow--
Look for new comp, and pick up tranferred files from old comp--if they're done--while trying to maintain a straight face and look sales guy in the face while not thinking about amount of weird yaoi on old HD. Weird tie-em-up, smack-em-down yaoi I swear I did not download. Nor create. It came in on its own. Really.

bitch slapped!

Have I ever mentioned how much I love the ficbitches?

I forwarded their url to a couple fic writing groups I was in and was told their reviews are Mean and Hurtful. Just two more reasons to love 'em!!



Insults were exchanged. Somebody said an ethnic slur. It all ended with hot hatesex on the floor, and wound up as bad Mockery slashfic on ff.net.

school

Finally got off my lazy ass and went down into the city to register classes. *whew* Its good to have that out of the way.

And I'd like to point out that its way, way, cool that I have a class about comic books. It gives me a sense of . . . I dunno. I ronic satysfaction maybe, considering how many times in school I've had a Meitantei Conan confiscated. Usually in religion class. Has being told god/christ/jesus is whoop-ass helped my life in anyway? No. Has reading comics? Apparently, yes.

Just sayin'

Unfortunately, tuition is going to kill me.

Also unfortunately, my landlord appears to have just cashed his rentcheck. Which is weird, because I was sure I'd already checked for the monthly huge drop in finances.

Grrr~ Who puts off cashing rent checks till the middle of the month? Thats just . . . rude.

I was going to buy a comp this week, but now it looks like thats not happening.

Like a fuckin' symphony, really. A bad, bad luck symphony.

Between bank snafoos, computer crashes, deadline mix-ups and my school's incredibly user-unfreindly interface, everything has fallen right into place for being completely, totally fucked up.

Its funny, really.

Because everything had to be just so to make a mess this wonderfully complete. When things have to be just so for thing to work out right you'll notice they never do.

Trying to figure out what I might have done in a past life to deserve this.

The thing is: Tuition deadline is tommorow, but they just informed me it will take 72 hours to process my payment-form request. WTF? Its already, like, 6-30 pm . . . thats less than 24 hours to the deadline.

And I realize its last minute, and that its probably my fault, but there were other forces at work, busily messing up other things. Probably the same forces that work in the bermuda triangle.

Goddammit.

My school is so totally, obviously about the moolah. I mean, great classes, great proffesors, but the infrasctructure is all about sockin' it to the student. I mean, my old school would go out of their way to give a student a hand or at least a little leeway.

Goddamit.

And oh yeah. Rent.

I am so not ready to be a grown-up.
