indoglish
Because I use a lot of Indo on this mostly English site, here's some lingo for the uninitiated:
abang=big brother
ade/adek=younger sibling (gender neutral)
bete/bt=a negative emotion, usually irritation or a bad mood
cewe/ce=slang for girls
cowo/co=slang for boys
ja'im (jaga imej/image)=guarding your social image
kakak (pronounced kaka')=older sibling (gender neutral, or female, depending)
--kak (ka')=honorific for older siblings or 'sempai'
kuliah/kul=college
gwe (sometimes gw, gue)=slang for I or me
SD=elementary school
SK (sometimes es-ka; setia kawan): solidarity, loyalty (among friends)
skul=school
SMA=high school
SMP=middle school
TK=kindergarten
wa=slang for I, me (same as 'gwe')
what are all those 2s? this is shorthand for a 'kata ulang'
or repeated word. ngakak2 is read ngakak-ngakak= laughing very hard
any words that need to be added?

howdy
I know I haven't been blogging as much or as often as I usually do. I too thought I was more obssesive than this--especialy when it comes to whoring for attention on the internet--but apparently lazyness is the driving force in my life.
Seriously.
I've spent most of this new, still baby-smooth year sleeping late and watching tv. Dialing onto the internet seems like too much trouble, and if it weren't for people who'd complain, I'd forgo showers, too. As it is I loll about in PJs till four in the afternoon. And so, in the face of all that hectic actvity, my forays onto the internet have been limited to quick searches for porn. In fact, thats why I'm online right now.
XD XD XD
So don't expect much from me until I'm back to "working" and "school", which is code for hanging about online and procrastinating. Ever notice how much more fun things are when you're meant to be doing something else?

seen any?
Everyone--well, not everyone--in the FFVII fandom talks like the web's completely filled to the binary brim with CidXVin fics, but y'know what? It really isn't.
Theres not even a lot of good doujin scans. I mean, theres okay doujin scans, and theres certainly some doujin scans, but fics? Theres not nearly enough to warrant the amount of "you know all those cidXvin fics" statements I keep running into.
I think I've seen maybe 10 readable cidXvin fics. Maybe.
edit: RudeXReno. I will settle for RudexReno.

Re: AI's "gay=disgusting?" thread
Making this entry is probably terrible netiquette, but there is more wrong with this thread than my 'mean'ness. Stop reporting me to other mods. It's just pathetic. Kudos to the one guy who had the balls to complain to me himself.
And no, no one told me about the member complaints. I_Legend's following my 'mean' mod post with a reluctant 'got your back' mod post is more than enough to clue me in. Especially since it was after I'd locked the thread.
Heh.
Just so you know, guys: My temper is no worse than your stupidity
In the spirit of fair-play, though, a direct translation of the original post, which is in itself not so bad--I suppose, in retrospect--but you can guess the replies it spawned:
---------------------------
HOMOseks
looking for opinions, views, comments from AI-ers about homosexuals in Indonesia, please . . . this is for a paper, hehehe . . . I choose a topic thats HOT. [in Indo-slang: hot(in this context)=current and/or controversial--bask]
--are you disgusted by gays? or ok with it?
--are there gay charachteristics?
--do you have any gay friends?
--do gays today tend to be closed to the outside world?
--is so, why? if not, why?
or other questions like that . . . thanks!
------------------------------
Its funny how barely anyone knows anyone whos gay, but is overflowing with queer knowledge nontheless. Wrong knowledge.
But what I really enjoy is the folks who are sending me 'fishing' PMs that read something like, "Why are you so sensitive about gays, kak? Don't tell me you're . . . . just kidding!"
You guys are so smooth. Real subtle.
No. Really.

turks
Now that we've all been spoiled on FFVIIAC's pretty animation, and looking forward to Dirge, it's come to my attention that the Turks have their own game.
And yes, I know it's old news. I'm slow.
But I do like those Turks.
Unfortunately, Before Crisis is playable only through subscription and on a specific Samsung(?) camera phone. I have a nokia and despise cameras in phones. (Materia in BC is generaed through some kind of picture color interpretation engine. Or something.)
Now, I'm all for platform-specific game deals the way FFVII, VIII, etc were only playable on the PS and PS2, but this phone thing . . . . Its a bit much, isn't it? I mean, for godsake, put it on the damn PSP. The thing costs $250, it may as well have a decent game or two, right? And it gets online for suscription updates, and I'm sure SquarEnix can work around it's not having a built-in camera. The photo-materia shtick reeks of gimmick anyway.
And while AC should have tipped us all off regarding the in-phone future of FFVII, I have to say its made me lose a little love for Square. Like other FF fans, I've been muttering about VII sequels for the last decade, and now that theres this wealth of FFVII shinies, they go and put them exclusively on non-game platforms.
Way to jerk the fans around, SquarEnix.

Opinions on original fiction?
Look at me. I made a cut-tag. I'm like, l33t or something.
(Cut tag might not work in LJ. I'm really thinking if turning off the crosspost feature, since editing doesnt equal cross-editing, and I really can't find it in me to care about a journal whose layout I can't overhaul without a paid account.)
This is the first four or five pages of a story I've restarted more times than I remember. Actually, I think it's the fifth time around, and I don't usually stick with a story that so throughly kicks my ass everytime I try to add a paragraph or two, but it finally seems to be going somewhere even if its not getting there terribly swiftly--And seems to be getting there in circles. I could swear I'd seen that semi-colon before.
Any opinion on the charachters would be more than greatly appreciated. Any opinions on anything else would be too. ( Though keep in mind my editing has been a mere once-over with word's spellcheck.)
(fire away! This be the unfinished tale, yarr!)
You can also read this related story (same charachters and setting, but not connected to the above in any plot-wise manner) if those few pages aren't enough to decide how many notches you want to take me down. XP
edit: Tabulas didn't like msword's 'smart quotes'. I think I got them all, but if you encounter an errant question mark it's probably either a ' or an " . Damn lot of hassle just to make quotation marks slant inwards.

2006
It always happens sometime towards the end of January:
I see the new year written somewhere--in this case, an online editorial I will be back to torture you with--and suddenly think, "Fuck, it's 2006!" (Or, in the past, 2005, 2004, etc.) This is followed by a niggling memory of writting 2005 on things, but also by the inability to remember what the hell I'd been signing and dating since the New Year.
I hope it was nothing important.

Hell, I'll torture you now.
This series of editorials is about an american teacher teaching English in Japan.
Worth the read.
Much better than the usual crap I link you to.

aslan vs. the green screen
Over christmas break I saw Narnia and liked it quite a lot, actually.
But one thing it didn't have was great fx. Or, really, it did when it mattered: Lion close-ups, evil wolves wolfing about, etc. But the green screen sections? Painfully obvious. It kind of lowered the overall 'awesomeness' a couple of notches. Yes, I know its a couple of seconds here-and-there with one or another of the kids looking out over Narnia, and so on.
But you know? It's a greens screen shot. It stands out because it's not a heavily 3D animated section. The eye is a lot more forgiving to the slightly-off centaur than it is to the out-of-sync background, because we expect that to look natural. We don't really expect cg to.
I know the movie's been out for ages. LJs praising the Narnia fx set me off. I'm sick today. I'm allowed to be grouchy. Go away. And come back with soup.
Wanna know whats unfair? NyQuil. NyQuil is like a one of those *pthtpthhtphtp* things, but in drug form: "Take me and you'll sleep a deep and blissful, coughless, sneezeless, sleep-like-a-baby-cold-medicine sleep". Bullshit. NyQuil gives me a heartrush and makes me hyper/paranoid/weird.
freinds: Just take NyQuil. Knocks you out like a light. I even use it for long flights. Wake up on landing. *thumbs up*
me: unfair
And yet the bottle's so tempting: "Best sleep you ever had with a cold medicine!"
If it was IM it'd have a little smiley face. I swear it. A smiley and a 'lol'.
I'm sick. I'm allowed to ramble.

yanked from my freinds' list
 A woman trapped in a girl's body (or a girl trapped in a woman's mind?), you are bursting with inspiration, dreams and abilities! You hold the simple belief that nothing can stand in your way, giving you the courage to move forward and pursue your desires. However, because your view of the world is so simple, you often overlook life's necessary little details. Don't get too swept away by your dreams that you forget to look at what's right in front of you. Which Love Hina Girl Are You?
This is probably where I should say: I have no idea who anyone on my f-list is. I have no idea how to make usenames show up. So. Yanked. From one of you.

the layout
Wanderlust v2. is a stargate layout.
The idea of the Stargate has always been one I liked: step through and wind up far, far
away. It's Star Wars meets CS. Lewis's wardrobe.
Welcome to wanderlust--v2. out there
