Because I use a lot of Indo on this mostly English site, here's some lingo for the uninitiated:
abang=big brother
ade/adek=younger sibling (gender neutral)
bete/bt=a negative emotion, usually irritation or a bad mood
cewe/ce=slang for girls
cowo/co=slang for boys
ja'im (jaga imej/image)=guarding your social image
kakak (pronounced kaka')=older sibling (gender neutral, or female, depending)
--kak (ka')=honorific for older siblings or 'sempai'
kuliah/kul=college
gwe (sometimes gw, gue)=slang for I or me
SD=elementary school
SK (sometimes es-ka; setia kawan): solidarity, loyalty (among friends)
skul=school
SMA=high school
SMP=middle school
TK=kindergarten
wa=slang for I, me (same as 'gwe')
what are all those 2s? this is shorthand for a 'kata ulang'
or repeated word. ngakak2 is read ngakak-ngakak= laughing very hard
any words that need to be added?

time specific drugs
We have now eveolved to the point where it is impossible to find cough medicine that isn't specific to day or night time use. With 'daytime' interchangeable with 'non drowsy'.
And of course, nothing at all to say whether or not daytime and/or nondrowsy simply lack the sleepytime drug, or actually have a wakeytime drug component.
And yes, those are medical terms.
I'm almost tempted to try NyQuil again. Or maybe some other PM. Because in the face of coughing myself awake every ten minutes, the weirdness that is a NyQuil high is starting to look . . . not desireable, but much less undesireable.
Besides, it only happened that once. I haven't NyQuilled since, and who knows? . . . I can hear the sleepytime drugs calling me.
Btw, did you know you need to 21+ to buy caugh syrup? Apparently you can make meth out of it.
You learn something new everyday.

re: nothing
Really.
I mean, I could talk about the superbowl, but why? Other than to ask; is it me, or were the adds just . . . random and innane? It was just stuff happening. Do people even write these things anymore, or just throw a bunch of things on screen and hope for the best?
Back to my non-topic: I have nothing to blog about because I've been doing nothing. Nothing but moping over my cold and watching bad TV. (Because, in the world of good TV: Why is LOST always on re-run?) My cough has become a sinus headache which sometimes is so bad it hurts my teeth.
Yeah. Pity me.

The Revamp
Wandering about the web in search of, *ehm* turks yaoi and finding mostly broken links and no-longer-here sites, I remembered that my own site is down. Not that anyone ever came to it, and not that has anything to do with FFVII, but . . . .
The realization that I'm one of those annoying non-existing web people has led me to the conclusion that it's time to get the site back up.
Really, I never meant for it to be down at all, let alone for so long. It's really just aother victim of my laptop crash and burn, what ate four years worth of work.
And no, I will never stop whining about it.
I'd deleted all the old pages, but my failing hard drive couldn't upload, and I blamed the failure on geocities. Because, c'mon, it wasn't a bad guess. A few days later the whole comp went and took around 30 hand html-ed web pages with it.
I know you're heard this before. You'll hear it again, if you stick around here.
The Revamp will, by the way, be to bravenet, because geocities has finally gotten too damn ugly to be tolerated. What is that side-bar add thing? It's so obnoxious.
And yes, you'll hear about this again, too. Don't you know I just copy-psate old entries? XP
Lemez: I never noticed, it but there is only one handphone in midgar. And all the same casing. ^^a Ah, SQE is whoring off 7 without even a smidgeon of shame. Gackt and cellphones. It hurts my console gamer geek heart.

See? Working!
Ta-dah!
I've started re-making the pages I lost during the comp crash. Which means I scanned the line drawing for the background and have started coloring it. I'd say re-colouring, but I can't remember what I had where. I had the old rough somewhere around here. I know I saw it earlier.
This apartement consists of one room and a kitchen, and still I lose everything. I'd tell you about how I spent all day hunting up the line drawing, then found it in a place I'd looked at least three times. While I was hunting that up, I know I saw the rough. I just know it.
But, of course, theres no sign of it now.
The drawing is still as crappy as crappier than I remember it, and my tablet is giving me trouble. I think it has something to do with the new computer having a widescreen ratio instead of the 3:4 the tablet has. Or, just as likely, with me not being terribly good at it.
This could take a while.

gay Indo links
Was surprised by this:
"In 1981 Indonesia became the first country in Asia to have a gay movement organization."
and thought this was a bit misleading:
Indonesians do not face discrimination in jobs such as their counter
parts in other countries; therefore gays in Indonesia are less
political. Nor do they have to hang out in exclusive gay bars,
since physical intimacy between members of the same sex are not
frowned at.
from: gay movement in indonesia
But have some gay in your cinema why you're here:
Indonesia embraces first on-screen homosexual kiss
I love this quote from the article: "Religious leaders often object about things to do with sex and sexuality. But I think maybe they haven't seen this film because they'd have to pay to see it. If they showed it on TV, then you'd probably get protests."
How cynical. But evangelical kurang dana!? Haha. Thats so shameful. ^__^

gay cannibals
Thats bound to get me some hits. ^__^;;
The Batak of North Sumatra were reported by Western missionaries (I believe mostly the germans, but I haven't looked into it.) to be canniballistic. My Batak father denies this as a load of missionary bs to secure more funds to support the conversion of the tribal man-eating heathens.
Who knows. I kind of think its pretty neat. ^^; But then, I'm mostly ignorant of my own culture, despite growing up surrounded by it (sort of), andI'm posting links about the gay of my people on the internet, so you just know I am a Bringer of Shame! Heh.
I kind of suspect people would deny the following, if asked. Running similar searches in Indonesian gets nothing but anecdotes of the redeemed and repented variety. Interesting.
"In some non-Western cultures, homosexual relations are accepted or even encouraged among certain groups. The Batak people of northern Sumatra, for example, permit male homosexual relationhips before marriage. At puberty, a boy leaves his parents' house and sleeps in a dwelling with a dozen to fifteen males of his age or older. Sexual partnerships are formed between couples in the group, and the younger boys are initiated into homosexual practices. This situation continues until young men marry. Once married, most, but not all, men abandon homosexual activities.
From: "Sociology" by Anthony Giddens, p105
"these Batak are known for a "homosexual phase" from about 9 to 19, the time they spend in either an all-male communal house, or with an old widow. This is so while "[i]n late childhood, it is not decent for children to stay sleeping in their parent's single-roomed house". The boys practice "primarily mutual masturbation of penis held against penis, maybe anal intercourse, but never fellatio. All members of the group may become one member's partner, in rotation. Relationships are not necessarily unobserved, but they are always in pairs, not in larger groups"."
From: Growing Up Sexually in Indonesia
And before you go pointing and laughing at mine, I can dig up gay tradition on any Indo tribe. I highly suspect, anyway. Wait till I get started on the young Javanese boy dancers, eh? Yeah. The crossdressed ones.
But here. This mentions a bunch of different folks, and it's interesting, even if it's in annoying PDF form: The gay Archipelago

not playdough
Easier to work with, in fact. And far less evil than sculpey.
We had to tear these guys down about ten minutes after finishing them, as one only gets so much clay for the entire semester and it took about half of that to make one of these.
It was sad, though. I was *this* close to naming him.

a kick in my own pants
I promise folks things and never quite get around to doing it. I procrastinate to the point where important things (like assignments, and work) get done at what I'll call half-quality (half the quality they would have been had I actually worked over the alotted porject time-lime), or, when possible, not done at all.
Things promised over the web, or to people who won't come and kick me in the head for not fulfilling said promise . . . well, lets just say I take my time about it.
I've been taking my time on a couple of things for, oh, several years now. ^^;
So, any one who drops in; feel free to shame me about any of the following.:
*Clean Spender drawing for Anha-ki, who tells me he's in "waiting mode" for it. Hahaha~
*Turk fic, because theres just not enough out there.
*Website overhaul, including re-editing fics, links, etc. Hhhhh~
*Yggdrasil
*Shadow (No, not the hedgehog. I'm so not into woodland animals and I will never understand Sonic porn. Sonic the hedgehog slash is just . . . I hesitate to say "wrong" since it's not hurting anyone . . . except my brain.)
*AI Yayu art . . . took my time . . . . This art debt started piling up near the beginning of the last semester.

Indonesian Yaoi Front
My internets been on and off this past year so I fell out of contact with some folks, but I have to say I'm happy to have re-encountered the IYF, now with forum.
When the mailing list petered out I thought it had died and was gone for good. This was the first "official" Indo yaoi group--I think--and I believe where I blundered into Mashi, who pointed the way to IG and later to the AI. Nice to see they're still around.

dibs
Speaking of FFVII, I've noticed the large amount of VII porn, and PWPs, but a decided lack of anything with an over-reaching story. Oh, theres a couple, "when Rufus and Reeve were younger" fics but "when they were younger" plots are really justifycation for pairing charachters who don't meet in the game or AC--everyone in this game seems to have worked for ShinRa, at some point--and set-up for porn and PWP-ish scenes. Only if we're very lucky is the porn not underage. And you gotta ask yourself . . . do you feel lucky?
But, I was thinking about this lack of story other than quasy-romance, (By which I only mean that the relationship is the plot, not that it's necessarily a romantic flowers-and-dancing sort of story--hence the 'quasy'.) and what sort of greater plot could be happening in a fic where--I'll admit it--my main intention is to write guy-smut. A plot that would interest readers whose main intentions are reading guy-smut, mind you. My original idea of some weird Nordic symbolism/legends re-work did not fit this description.
And I know jack shit about Nordic symbolism anyway.
So. I have an idea now, and I like it. I'd tell you more, but I don't want it to get grabbed while I'm still dubiously poking it with the I'm-not-good-enough-to-write-this stick. Or the I-suck-at-plot stick. Or the I-don't-know-enough-canon stick. (Not that theres much canon in VII, and not that people haven't explained it all to me blow-by-blow a hundred times over, but I still feel like theres some bit of crucial information I'm just not getting But then, I'm told VII will do that, so maybe I do get it, after all.)
I'm not casting suspicious eyes on any of you lot. Don't worry. I have all faith that you're not a bunch of plot-nappers. But . . . ever get that feeling, two seconds after you have what you think is a good idea, that everyone has just had the same idea and you'de better get to it or you'll be the plot-napper? Or that even mentioning it will clue absolutely everyone in, and the next thing you know clones of your idea will be jumping out at you from every url, and it will, in fact, not be your idea anymore, because everyone else got it written and done first?
Yeah. It's like that.
It's probably not even that an good idea. It most likely just looks so in light of the stinkers I usually come up with. But still, there should be a 'dibs' website where you can call dibs on plots the way you can call dibs on shotgun or the TV remote.

they don't make criminals like they used to
I don't know if any of you are watching this hostage situation thing in Pheonix (if I'm not mistaken). It happened to be on, and I was only half listening until the newscaster said, "One of the hostages escaped by saying she had to go to the bathroom, then leaving the building."
I mean, you've got to admire the lady's gumption, and good for her and all that, but isn't that the actual Oldest Trick in the Book?
It makes me wonder if this guy is stupid or just not all that into it.

Women Presidents
When people go on and on about how oppresive Islam is to women, and how much better women's rights are in America, why is it they never mention the other contries who've had women as head of state?
Canada, for one, and I believe the Philipines.
But also Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country. Woman President. Muslim woman president.
And we voted her in, too.
Meanwhile, the wax doll of Hillary Clinton in Madam Trousseau's museum has an electronic poll asking, "Would you vote for a woman president?"
I always wonder why no one asks about this disconnect whenever someone starts harping on about how much better women's rights are in the west.
(Post sparked by this thread, on GAFF. I can't seem to post in this sub-forum, and the rant had to go somewhere.)

Suddenly it's midnight. How'd that happen? I haven't even started my work yet.
Damn, I get better and better at this procrastinationn thing by the day.
'course its the day I have heaps to do that I decide to visit people, actually cook, actually do dishes (I'm shocked, too!), rifle through class portfolios, download music, hang about the AI.
And then I decided I'd start working . . . after a snack.
And maybe one more song dl.

cats and dogs
All of a sudden it decided to rain yesterday. It hasn't really let up since. It's overcats and dreary, and my favorite sort of weather, topped only by those massive Jakarta monsoons that sound like someone dropping thousands and thousand of ballbearings on your roof.
It's also good weather because no one wants to go outside to get to the laundry room, so I have the machines all to myself. Mwahahaha~
I just have to look out for the crazy homeless guy who lives in the crawlspce of the building next door. Who is down there. I can hear him ranting from the 3rd floor. -__-;; It's either other there's a back-up of other tenants' laundry, or crazy homeless guy yelling at you.
It's raining, damn it! Go the hell inside!
