indoglish

Because I use a lot of Indo on this mostly English site, here's some lingo for the uninitiated:

abang=big brother
ade/adek=younger sibling (gender neutral)
bete/bt=a negative emotion, usually irritation or a bad mood
cewe/ce=slang for girls
cowo/co=slang for boys
ja'im (jaga imej/image)=guarding your social image
kakak (pronounced kaka')=older sibling (gender neutral, or female, depending)
--kak (ka')=honorific for older siblings or 'sempai'
kuliah/kul=college
gwe (sometimes gw, gue)=slang for I or me
SD=elementary school
SK (sometimes es-ka; setia kawan): solidarity, loyalty (among friends)
skul=school
SMA=high school
SMP=middle school
TK=kindergarten
wa=slang for I, me (same as 'gwe')

what are all those 2s? this is shorthand for a 'kata ulang' or repeated word. ngakak2 is read ngakak-ngakak= laughing very hard

any words that need to be added?

lazy, yo

I've been falling asleep on the couch, in my clothes, with my contacts in, at around seven for several nights now.

This sucks, because I have a class that starts at seven (and goes till ten, OMG) and because kendo practive is also at seven. I am beyond lazy to go (also because it is cold after dark) but a dojo mate has my armor, and I told them I would be there to pick it up from them next practice.

I'm not sure how to return the armor I borrowed, either. Theres all these formalities, they are giving me ulcers. Also, I know scary-sensei will be on my case, because I still can't tie my men. I tell myself that as long as she is not hitting me with her shinai, I'm happy, but actually, I am kinda afraid of her regardless.

I hope to one day not be a fuck-up anymore. Or at least less of a one.

Quick! Do something entertaining!

It's ten to seven, and I'm ready to pass out. This is ridiculous! I'm way too young to have my grandmother's sleep pattern.

And, to be honest, she usually made it past eight.

and also, "orang" means person

I do not understand why Orangutan island insists on calling the sanctuary staff "teknisi." The first episodes I caught, they were still going with technician. What the hell was wrong with that? Why is technician the only word they language flip? It's driving me nuts. I just don't understand. It makes no sense. Is it just because for a while they had Tshirts that said "Teknisi" on them? But surely the animal planet watching public is smart enough to make the leap and realize that teknisi and technician are pretty much the same thing? It's not like it's even a big leap.

And I am not even being a priss here. I'm not picking on the way the narrator pronounces the "Mogok" (Mo-Gawk. HAW HAW HAW. Okay, a little.) or the way they shorten orangutan to "orang". (Both of which make english-sense, but still make me itch.)

But the teknisi/technition thing? The only thing I can think of is that maybe they're trying to paint their staff as some kind of special orangutan-whispering tribe, separate from the local villagers, which they probably come from anyway. That is the only sense I can make of it, and even that is kind of reaching.

Why only the one word? And why after several episodes? It just makes no sense.

Its like some kind of crazy imponderable.

If I had a twin, I'd make him do all the things I'm too lazy to.

It's way too cold to go to practice. If I didn't have to pick up my bogu, I'd never get back on this particular horse. D: Barefoot in winter? NOT FOR ME, THNKZ.

People laugh at me when I say I'm freezing my ass off in California, but California is cold, y'all. In NY, buildings were at least well insulated; here it's icy outside and chilly inside.

And I'm still getting sleepy ridiculously early, even if I managed to stay up till around ten the last couple of nights.

I'm so pathetic. I'd be embarassed if I had any pride.

I wanted to scan the whippet sketches from today's class, but my book is a bit large for the scanner.

(The dog wore a jacket when he went outside on break. See? He's cold, too!)

new

I did go to practice on Tuesday (and wanted to DIE the entire time, btw) and my new, own, actually-fitting bogu is made of bubbles and also of joy. I haven't worn it for practive yet, but have tried it on, and it's a great deal lighter than the loaner set I'd been using. It doesn't even hurt to wear--that is a gigantic improvement, I am not joking.

The dye's coming off on everything, though, and I accidentally turned the shoulders of my tshirt blue when I put the men on to pratice tying it fast (and properly. I can only seem to manage one of the two at any given time.)

But the best part is that the bag that comes with the bogu? Has actual carrying straps. Unlike the bag that the club set is in which you have to carry by the--sharp! hurty!--drawstring.

Phone

Phone is a korean horror movie I fell asleep during at a friends house. I only woke up for the end, which was scary enough that we were all yelling. Then my friend let me keep the DVDs to catch up on what I'd missed (most of it), but no one wants to watch it with me because they've all seen it.

I told them they didn't have to pay attention, I just want someone to hold meeeeeee, but they just told me to "Man up, LOL."

Friendship. It's a beautiful thing.

Also, I skipping Kendo tonight because my knee hurts, I have homework, and I'm kind of tired. If it was only one of those things, or maybe even two of them, I'd still go, but as it is: nah.

I'm going to tell my sempai that its because my bogu is turning everything blue and the dark tenugui I ordered haven't come yet: "I can't go, because I only have white tenugui. They'll get all messed up!" Then I'll pull an OMG-woe! face. It'll be great.

Side note on this movie: my friend's reaction at the end of it was, "This is the pain of a woman unable to bear children." I never knew there could be such deep meaning in a haunted cellphone, but OK.

It's 1AM and I still haven't started my assigment.

Where is everyone? No one's here, no one's on eL (except on the Valentine's thread, lamenting about how we will all have to eat heartbreak noodles).

When it gets to be this late, I don't even wanna work. I just want it done. I keep thinking about how long it will take, and what time I'm going to get to bed, and how much sleep I won't be getting, and do things like this instead:

This is the first color layer (marker), and you can sort of see the linework. I apologize if it's glarey, I had to push levels and contrast pretty far just to make it visible. My scanner can't seem to pick up paler shades, even if they're clearly visible to the eye. I'm sure theres a setting somewhere I can adjust.

Then again, it is a four year old scanner. Maybe it's just not up to it.

Second pass. I started to support some of the structure suggested in the pencil, then realized some of the lines were mistakes. Now I'm trying to unsupport it as I stack more color on.

Boo!

So the tenugui I'd been waiting and waiting for finally came . . . and they SUCK. The material is wrong, (too slippery to hold, and kind of thick, though I have washed one to see if that helps with the slipperyness) they're stitched up along all four sides (usually tenugui have unfinished ends, and the long sides don't unravel because thats the width of the fabric. It's the weft or whatever. It doesn't need to be sewn up.) and just, Wah!

I was really happy about the extreme flowery-ness of one of them, too. It looked like something someone's granma would stitch into a quilt--it would have been great! Heh. Theres an idea what to do with them, at least.

At least I know where to find a pink sakura one. But the insane shipping cost is kinda putting me off.

So dissapointed!

you're just mad coz' we have Cinta Laura

I've never heard the word "Indon" before, but apparently it's a racist (ETA: racist probably isn't the right word. All of SEAsia is kind of mushed up, racially speaking. Maybe "bigoted hate word" is more acturate.) malaysian word for Indonesians:

Include: 1. Screenshot or hyperlink of world wide web headline showing the word indon, for indon to know that the whole world calling them indon.

The weird thing is that most of the really, really angry articles the guy posts are about internal matters that don't even effect non-Indonesians. It's just so very, very bizarre.

All the Malaysians I've ever met online or off have been pretty cool. If I wasn't getting pass-it-on links from people, I would seriously doubt the existence of this sort of nut job, because in my experience the Indo-Malay conflict has been lukewarm, and only forcibly whipped up to argue about who has better celebrities. The amount of actual vitriol on this site is therefore more weird than anything.

His upset at the Pancasila is made of crazy, but even better is where he complains about how expensive and legally inconvinient it would for him to to live in Indonesia.

Dude, you just lookin' for shit to be mad about now.

Friend: Ha! Our hate site is way more professional looking!

I looked. It is, too. It has its own domain and Indo/English bilingual options. o___O

Accessories are what I live for.

So washing the fake!tenugui has really improved on the slipperyness. It feels almost like it's real, and I tried it on under my men. It seems OK, though I am a bit worried about it slipping when I'm actually being clubbed over the head, and scary-sensei getting a look at it and going WTF is this?

Anyway, I thought I'd show you what I was talking about.

fake!tenugui:

Can you see why I am dissapointed at the fakeness? THE FLOWERS! THEY ARE PRETTY! BUT BLUE, AND SO NOT GIRLY!! But see how the pattern is only on one side? And the finished edge? WTH, right?

For comparison, the club tenugui looks like this:

You can see where the loose end is unravelling a bit, right? And that the material is thinner and kind of 'crispy'?

I'm thinking of just cutting the finished edge off the fake!tenuguis and saving them for when I'm OK enough at DRESSING MYSELF that no one is going to come over to inspect my gear.

Damn it. Those flowers are so awesome. Garararara~

I call it progress.

Yesterday I managed to tie my men on my own. \o/ And it only came apart twice during practice.

My new kote give a lot more protection than the loaner worn-out club set, so I no longer have to worry about whether or not to wear extra padding under them.

C: You can if you want, but people will give you a hard time if they know. Because you know how the culture is so macho-macho.
Me: Well, I'd hate for anyone to think I wasn't macho.
Me: But it helps getting work done IF I CAN FEEL MY HANDS* jalsjdhas HCLJHDsalsdhLHLDJHSHDL
C: Meh~

OMG OMG dorkitude! (or -9r charachter roughs)

These are mostly for Varly, who wanted an overview of how the main charachters look, in case she felt like drawing them (I LOVE YOU, VAR!! XD XD ). They're very rough and craptacular and it's not like I'm 100% married to the concepts or anything, so go ahead and change up anything you feel like.

Really, I'd much rather see others' interpretations than a reiteration of my interpretation. If it's not in the text, it's not canon, right? XD So these aren't official scratch sheets or even official roughs or anything like that. Just thought I'd try my hand at them, even if I know I'll fall short of Anha-ki's awesomeness.

(These are for you, Varly, do you love me now?)

[original][-9r; original_100 #1] I Hate It When You Talk Like Me [1/1][PG13]

Remember this old thing?Original_100 still hasn't approved me, and I don't think it's ever going to. The comm appears dead, at least approvals-wise, seeing as I claimed in July and haven't heard back yet. Whatever. I'll do it on my ownsome.

I owe Anha-ki fics for the illustration he drew me, but what I owe him is Cahill/Sellis, because his OTP is weird like that. It didn't fit into what's already written, but I figure I can spend prompts on him, because I <3 Anhi like that.

The Big Damn Table will only be updated on tabulas, because I'm lazy. Unless I get a sudden rush of anything-but-work productivity. It's been known to happen.

Please be aware that prompt!fic may be spoilery or jump all over the timeline, even way, way beyond PoD. Like you care.

001. Beginnings
I Hate It When You Talk Like Me
In which Sellis knows what he wants, and hates how to get there, and Cahill is logical.

[original][-9r; original_100 #2] The Heart Is Where Your Home Is [1/?][PG13]

This story will probably continue into the next prompt, though there might be some lost time between parts.

And I appreciate any comments, even if they're "Didn't read because your layout sucks/is making me blind." Because if the layout's a problem, I can always write a new one or x-post, y'know?

And I forgot to say yesterday that the rest of the 'verse is here, under -9r.

002. Middles
The Heart Is Where Your Home Is
In which you get the middle part of a story, and Sellis loses the Rattatosk.

At least this means I can have all the coffee I want.

I have so much work to do for tommorow morning that I'll probably be up all night. AND I have a test in the class after that.

I can't really blame anyone or anything, because this is all due to my well-honed procratination-fu with which I successfully wasted the weekend, and the days I'd intentionally cleared out for the doing of large projects.

I'm in a class with illustrators, and I have great envy of them. I wish I'd never gotten curious about animation, it has led me down a path of darkness. ;__;

Wanderlust v2. is a stargate layout.

The idea of the Stargate has always been one I liked: step through and wind up far, far away. It's Star Wars meets CS. Lewis's wardrobe.

Welcome to wanderlust--v2. out there
