Because I use a lot of Indo on this mostly English site, here's some lingo for the uninitiated:
abang=big brother
ade/adek=younger sibling (gender neutral)
bete/bt=a negative emotion, usually irritation or a bad mood
cewe/ce=slang for girls
cowo/co=slang for boys
ja'im (jaga imej/image)=guarding your social image
kakak (pronounced kaka')=older sibling (gender neutral, or female, depending)
--kak (ka')=honorific for older siblings or 'sempai'
kuliah/kul=college
gwe (sometimes gw, gue)=slang for I or me
SD=elementary school
SK (sometimes es-ka; setia kawan): solidarity, loyalty (among friends)
skul=school
SMA=high school
SMP=middle school
TK=kindergarten
wa=slang for I, me (same as 'gwe')
what are all those 2s? this is shorthand for a 'kata ulang'
or repeated word. ngakak2 is read ngakak-ngakak= laughing very hard
any words that need to be added?

Varly's imagination cake is omnomnom
More on -9r. See how I am easily distracted from work?
So Varly wanted an better overview on the background of -9r. I don't what she's drawing, but it sound in-depth. O__o
I am working on the shiny precious, all actively like, but it may take some days. In other words; I miced this.
Civilized Space
Civilized Space is the area of space explored and populated by humans. It includes everything from Old Space to the Reaches. The outer limits of Civilized Space is a blurry line: humanity just sort of thins out, as the leading edge of exploration is not so much an edge, and a vague gradient.
Exploration of space expanded outwards from the original planets (Earth-parallel--I obviously don't work in the real world--pre-FTL populated planets, moons, stations, etc), which results in a circular sort of map that might conceptually be illustrated like this:

And by 'conceptually', I mean, it's not a geographic layout. I didn't name each little dot, and there are more than three Station Belts, and nothing is to scale, and exploration probably doesn't result in such regularly spaced regions, blah blah blah.
Old Space:
Origin planets. Now includes orbiting and free-standing stations, habitated non-planetary solid bodies, and so on. Visual refference is old European, but tidy, clean, and shinied up. Technology is hidden as 'ugly'. Textures are naturals: wood, stone, brick, plants. Dense population, but well-managed: too clean, too well ordered to be as organic as it all looks.
Midstate:
An area of free-standing stations used to refuel, rest, and repair ships. Stations may or may not be affiliated to larger corporations, nations, whatever. Free stations are likely dirty, badly maintained, and populated by any sort of people. Affiliated stations tend to be better kept. Midstate has a functional 'upper-class' though its sort of New Money, not etiquette ruled or as powerful as Old Space nobility.
As Varly said: Singapore+Dirty+Scary+Scifi ^^a
Visually: Blade Runner+Babylon5, but less with the weird make up. Ciberpunk textures: wires, metal, exposed piping, electronics.
Station Belts:
Like Midstate, but smaller. Short chains of stations mainly used by mining companies to collect and/or collect shipments, centralize management of mining crews in the area, provide a center for more serious medical treatment than some crews have on-surface. Some stations in belts are TCE, used for similar things: centralize operations, profide a base for medical care, resupplying surface crews, and so on.
Belt stations tend to be minimalistic, and utilitatrian, and less crime laden than Midstate, with less civilian population, and more organization-specific staff and personel.
Is Midstate is S'pore, Station Belts might be like those weird cities that Freeport builds to support their mines.
Reaches:
Minimally and/or newly explored regions of space beyond Midstate. Includes young city-states, lawless towns, mining towns, TCE camps, lone miners, etc.
Visually: Firefly, Trigun(?) and simlar. Textures are a mix of natural and high tech. A lot of old technology, and jury (jerry?) rigging.
Sorry I don't have more pics, Var. I'm working on it. Maybe I'll find sample refference somewhere, someday. XPPP~

'grudging' is STILL my coloring style
You Are a Blue Crayon
|

Your world is colored in calm, understated, deep colors.
You are a loyal person, and the truest friend anyone could hope to find.
On the inside, you tend to be emotional and even a bit moody.
However, you know that people depend on you. So you put on a strong front.
Your color wheel opposite is orange. Orange people may be opinionated, but you feel they lack the depth to truly understand what they're saying.

Is this still English?
I have a classmate--who I dislike on many levels, but thats beside the point--who has this weird habit of saying "females" where one would normally say "women". The class we're in is an animal drawing class, and as we were leaving the lion enclosure, she was going on females with white afros, and for for about four minutes I thought she was confused about lion sex markers. Turned out she was talking about another visitor's hairdo.
Or she says things like, "Most females would like flowers/hate that decor/etc/etc."
It's just weird. I find it really jarring, but I've noticed it on the tee-vee a few times, too. What is this trend, and where does it come from? Or is it just me, and it's been used that way all along?

Imagination cake. Updates from the kitchen.
Varly's roughs kick the ass off mine. I would like to say things like, "I drew tiny and blew it up, and she drew big and shrank it down," but the truth is that she is awesome.
I want to marry her Lilaey.
Or maybe her Cahill.
It's hard to decide.
Everything clicks out to whole pages of development art. Some of the sketches hidden behind clicks are my favorites. They're really good.
Varly's.
PS. It's OK to link right, Var? Because I already did . . . . XD

it's what tiggers like best
Your Score: Tigger
You scored 21 Ego, 9 Anxiety, and 17 Agency!
And as they went, Tigger told Roo (who wanted to know)
all about the things that Tiggers could do.
"Can they fly?" asked Roo.
"Yes," said Tigger, "they're very good flyers, Tiggers
are. Strornry good flyers."
"Oo!" said Roo. "Can they fly as well as Owl?"
"Yes," said Tigger. "Only they don't want to."
"Why don't they want to?" well, they just don't like it
somehow."
Roo couldn't understand this, because he thought it
would be lovely to be able to fly, but Tigger said it was
difficult to explain to anybody who wasn't a Tigger himself.
You scored as Tigger!
ABOUT TIGGER: Tigger is the newest addition to the Hundred Acre Wood, and he lives with Kanga and Roo, because Roo's strengthening medicine turned out to be the thing that Tiggers like best. Tigger is bouncy and confident -some of his friends think he is a little TOO bouncy and confident, but attempts to unbounce him tend to be fruitless.
WHAT THIS SAYS ABOUT YOU: You are a positive and confident person. You feel capable of dealing with anything and everything, and funnily enough, you usually ARE. You don't worry about much, and you love to go out and find new adventures.
Your friends and family might sometimes be a little exasperated by your boundless enthusiasm. You don't like to admit your mistakes, and when you find yourself in over you head, you tend to bluff your way out of things. You would be surprised, however, at how happy the people around you would be if you would actually admit to a mistake. It would make you seem more human, somehow.

sacrificing chickens will make the mail go faster Y/N?
I arrange my schedule so that my days off would flank the weekend, theoretically giving me loads and loads of time to get my ridiculously huge pile of work done. Unfortunately cramming all my classes into a solid block of wake-work-class-work--class-class means that that second 'work' time block starts on Wednesday night when I get home and ends in a panicked rush about ten minutes before I have to leave for class on Thursday morning.
Every week.
Which kind of wrecks me for any work on Friday. Then wasted this Saturday getting on and off line fretting about how much money I was about to spend on a wacom, and then this mornign realized that I totally forgot I had to re-do an entire assigment that got pretty heavily rained on. (It was sunny when I left the East Bay, I swear. Goddamn SF weather.)
Having that wacom will cut my coloring time in half, and save me from my dying copics (which are admittedly around 4 years old, but still, wth. Last forever, pls, markers) because all the base colors are crapping out halfway through a first coat.
Streaky. Nice. There in not enough 10%gray in the world to blend that shit. ;____;
You know what this is like? This is like being six years old and waiting for that Tony the Tiger magic hat what cost you three box tops.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Can anyone tell me anything about this series? Is there a manga? Amazon is only showing me DVDs and audio CDs. If there is, is it licensed in either the US or Indo, or do I have to get my yarr!matey! hat back out of the closet?
Did you like it/hate it/meh/good art, bad story/good story, bad art ?
I saw a fanart that looked sweeeet. But you know how that can go.
ETA: found the online manga. have not read. must do work. OMG I HAVE NO WILLPOWER *goes to read*

lazy
I haven't been to kendo in like two weeks, because of midterms and general workload disorganisation. I was just getting back into kendo-shape, too. Boo.
My armor is still turning me blue, but worse than that is that when it starts to heat up in there, I feel like I'm fucking breathing indigo. The first time I wore it I was all, "What is that taste in my mouth? Ew."
My tenugui is, however, mostly staying on now. \o/
And scary-sensei is still scaring me. Most practices I'm not telling myself, "do your best, ok", but "don't give her an excuse, dear god save me onoz onoz".
But yeah. Tenugui. Yay. At least theres improvement somewhere. :/
Also SPRING BREAK!

feed me candy
My aunt's office does stuff with international people or students or whatever. I got no idea, actually. What's important is that people bring stuff with them like souveniers, or the unopened box of candy I found on a side table, kind of under a plant, iirc.
me: OMG CAN I EAT THIS DODOL?
Aunt: It's been there forever . . . I don't know who it belongs to. I don't think they ever even opened it.
But inside the cardboard box, the inner plastic box was flimsy and only stapled together, and with a bit of doing I managed to work a piece out.
me: *OMNOMNOMNOMNOM* THIS IS GREAT. WHY IS NO ONE EATING THIS?!
me: IT TASTES JUST LIKE DURIAN!!!!!
Aunt: . . . . umm . . .
me: Oh. Right.
People appreciate nothing. I should have stolen the whole box.

-9r -- tryin' it Minekura style
I have a tablet now. Yay.
Paitence didn't come bundled with it, though, sad to say. My most frequent crit in class is "Wow. I can see exactly where you went AGR FUCK IT, and just slapped the rest together."
I'm still really slow with the tablet. But here's to progress.
I used Busgamer for refference--WHERE IS THE REST OF THE STORY OMG OMG WTF OMG--but obviously even with that I can't get anything resembling her linework. Rarg. I also only did the boys, because let's face it: Minekura's female charachters always look kinda odd. At least, I think so.
(line and color)

Close up of height chart. I actually like how this looks better than the cha portraits. -_____-

[writing][-9r] I didn't mean to say those things I said when I was drunk
Have you ever started writing something, then stepped back and gone, "Huh. Well, what do you know?"
(In which I do not advocate the slavery of the cylonish cyber-people)
On another "Heh" subject, in case this isn't long and self-centered enough already, when I look at all the charachters I like from other stories, my own as well as others, I can see a patterns start of all sorts of things, some of which I never realised until later. Sometimes I open an old file, and see issues I was dealing with at the time written into it in fragments and under the cover of completely different issues. Without even realising I was putting any of it in there.
Fortunately, it not anything anyone who wasn't me could pick out from the made-up stuff. At least I hope not.
So yeah, I do think you can accidentally write in a lot of messy/ugly/whatever things into a story without at all meaning to do it. It doesn't hurt to step back and say, "What now, brain?" and see if you mind where you come out.

Happy birthday, me!
26, still alive and kicking.
One of my friends has called me twice now to say "Daaaaaaaammmn, you'ree ooolddd." Please don't do that. ;___; I'm having a hard time with the concept of being a grownup-grownup. I've been young all my life, you see. I have no experience of this grown-up thing you speak of.
Can I trade it in? Maybe for some french fries?

art req meme
sukiyakiya (aka lemez) has done this a few times, and I always wanted to do one, too, but was always, "Oh I can't draw good enough, I don't have enough time," or whatever other cop out of the day was running through my head.
I'll never have nothing to do, and this is how one gets good. Or one of the ways. And that way is flist-enforced practice.
Also known as the art meme.
Request a pic, cha, pairing, add anything specific you want in it. I'll do my best. (Just nothing too hugely ensemble, plz, like "the entire poke-cast of pokemon". Unless you want, like, my head to explode.)
First three reqs are automatically in (I bet I only get, like one or two T____T ) and any others will depend. On my mood. Because I'm a brat like that.
Consider it my late traktiran. XP
ETA:
-sukiyakiya: Code Geass--Suzaku & Lelouch
-karcy: portrait
-varly: unclear (???)

hide me
Tomorrow I have to go see my department head to petition to graduate. I have the scared.
I'm supposed to be writing a resume, organising my portfolio and printing out a business card to prove I can survive in the world, but I'm on irc instead. I am scared into motionlessness.
So yeah. It might take me a bit to get around to those pics. I have to recover after tomorrow, no matter how it goes.
L: So are you going to kendo?
Me: If I don't it's because he won't let me graduate and I'm at home crying.
Then she said I was a baby, but thats OK because babies don't have to see department heads and make resumes.
Oh, god, I wish I had beer.

Wanderlust v2. is a stargate layout.
The idea of the Stargate has always been one I liked: step through and wind up far, far
away. It's Star Wars meets CS. Lewis's wardrobe.
