Because I use a lot of Indo on this mostly English site, here's some lingo for the uninitiated:abang=big brother
ade/adek=younger sibling (gender neutral)
bete/bt=a negative emotion, usually irritation or a bad mood
cewe/ce=slang for girls
cowo/co=slang for boys
ja'im (jaga imej/image)=guarding your social image
kakak (pronounced kaka')=older sibling (gender neutral, or female, depending)
--kak (ka')=honorific for older siblings or 'sempai'
kuliah/kul=college
gwe (sometimes gw, gue)=slang for I or me
SD=elementary school
SK (sometimes es-ka; setia kawan): solidarity, loyalty (among friends) skul=school
SMA=high school
SMP=middle school
TK=kindergarten
wa=slang for I, me (same as 'gwe')
what are all those 2s? this is shorthand for a 'kata ulang' or repeated word. ngakak2 is read ngakak-ngakak= laughing very hard
any words that need to be added?

my laugh is a bitter laugh
On reccomendation, I read Parrotfish, which is a YA book about a transgendered high school student. It's not very well written, in my opinion, but whatever.
My goat, though, is from the amazon comments:
One character of note to look forward to is Kita Charles. I was indeed quite impressed with Wittlinger's development of this biracial character and the connections between sexuality and race that she embodies and highlights.
Connections between sexuality and race? Is that weird to anyone else? No?
If anyone ever finds a queer fiction (LGB or T, I ain't fussy) where the mixed person gets to also be the queer person, drop me a line, K? I don't give kudos for supporting cast, especially when they're there as 'exotic lovah' and/or authorial brownie point.
Although, if the exotic lovah was also a total FOB who hung ghost wards and was afraid of the smell of night-blooming flowers or something, I could go with that.

In a thread about premarital sex in Indonesia, I've just been banned from talking about religion, or the vagina. (Female circumsition is still common, but apparently doesn't relate to premarital sex enough to belong in the discussion. And neither does the fallibility of the hymen as virgin-dar.)

Yeah. I got nothin' either. But I do keep hearing, "God creates man, man kills god, man creates dinosaurs," echoing in my head.
But the admin has made jokes snide remarks about bra burning and guided tours of the vagina, so I guess it's all lol and j/k now.

I hate you, school
I'm trying to score an internship. Unfortunately, the information re. the porfolio review for it are FUCKED UP, at best. The communication flow: nonexistent. I was, apparently, supposed to drop the portfolio off at the department office on Friday. This information was sent to me . . . wait for iiiit . . . that Friday morning.
I didn't get it until almost six in the evening. I don't check my email when I have work to do, because I am UTTERLY incapable of getting offline once I'm on. (This explains why I'm on right now, when I should be cutting matte board.)
Anyway, I replied that I would come by on Monday morning with it, but now the logistics of the portfolio and the choreograhy of the review are no longer what I thought they would be. Like, where will my portfolio be? Will I have it, or will they? How do I give the reviewer the info packet if THEY already have the portfolio? It makes the timing of "here are print copies of my work" kind of awkward.
I just don't know what's going on anymore.
Also, I'm now afraid to check my email in case of more fubar instructions. My stomach hurts when I try to log in, so I just don't.

So it looks like I'm going miss tonight's ep of Battlestar Galactica. Does anyone know if SciFi re-airs it again later during the week (I know HBO ran Carnivale episodes multiple times, so missing was never a problem.) ?
Or if I can find it on scifi.com? (And whether or not it's a live stream I have to tune into at a certain time? My home connection is crappeh, and I'd have to find me some high speed to jump onto is it streams at a time when coffee shop I usually watch vids from is closed.)
