content (fiction index)

indoglish

Because I use a lot of Indo on this mostly English site, here's some lingo for the uninitiated:

abang=big brother
ade/adek=younger sibling (gender neutral)
bete/bt=a negative emotion, usually irritation or a bad mood
cewe/ce=slang for girls
cowo/co=slang for boys
ja'im (jaga imej/image)=guarding your social image
kakak (pronounced kaka')=older sibling (gender neutral, or female, depending)
--kak (ka')=honorific for older siblings or 'sempai'
kuliah/kul=college
gwe (sometimes gw, gue)=slang for I or me
SD=elementary school
SK (sometimes es-ka; setia kawan): solidarity, loyalty (among friends)
skul=school
SMA=high school
SMP=middle school
TK=kindergarten
wa=slang for I, me (same as 'gwe')

what are all those 2s? this is shorthand for a 'kata ulang' or repeated word. ngakak2 is read ngakak-ngakak= laughing very hard

any words that need to be added?

It's only fanart or fanfic if

1) you are not the original artist, and

2) if you have websites devoted to the character, and you think about the character's life all the time, and are obsessed about how the author ought to write the story so the character turns out the way you want it to instead of the way the author wants it to, and if you are a big fan of the character, and you want other people to be big fans also, and if you are all freaky!otaku about the character.

Do you fulfill these two criteria?

What's with the snarkyness about fan creation? I happen to like playing with other people's toys--especially if I admire the work--and I don't think you have to be all "freaky otaku" to enjoy it.

It's playing, why do you have to be 'obsessed' to like doing it?

Theres a lot of heart and a lot of talent in fanart communities, and actually, a lot of professionals start out in fanwork. And continue on with it even after they're recognized for their own work.

Why do you sound so scornful about it?

I completely did not convey the point I was trying to make, then. I wasn't trying to be snarky about fanfic and fanart. I was trying to be silly about you and your blog, and I failed.

I meant it along the lines of: the character Bart, of whom you drew the picture, is a character in Real World, which has six billion story lines going at the moment. You write about Bart's life in your blog, you often speculate about how his story ought to go, even though the Author is going to make it go a different way. The readers of your blog, of which I am glad to be one, are those whom you wish to interest in the Bart storyline, and because you ~are~ Bart, your own existence interests you greatly, obsessively, so that you can hardly do anything else but follow your story.

That's all I meant.

Oh.

Thats actually a kind of complicated joke to catch. I missed it completely.

Probably because I was focused on the khr 10 year bazooka.

Whoops.

the layout

Wanderlust v2. is a stargate layout.

The idea of the Stargate has always been one I liked: step through and wind up far, far away. It's Star Wars meets CS. Lewis's wardrobe.

Welcome to wanderlust--v2. out there
